RET gene mutations

What is a RET gene?

A RET gene is a gene that gives instructions for making a protein (proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase receptor). But also involved in signaling with human cells.  The proteins made by the RET gene is essential for the normal development of several kinds of nerve cells. Still, the nervous system that controls involuntary body functions such as:

  • The autonomic nervous system
  • Heart rate (blood pressure problems)
  • Digestion
  • Respiratory rate
  • Pupillary response
  • Kidney development
  • Sperm production
  • Urination
  • Sexual arousal

Do you have RET gene mutation symptoms?

RET is an extremely important gene. But having a mutation in these genes can lead to literally hundreds of health problems. There are just some of the major symptoms to look out for:

  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Newborn unable to pass first stool
  • Leaking of stool
  • Vomiting
  • Flatulence
  • Hyperparathyroidism (too much parathyroid hormone production)
  • Increased gastrin production (ulcers, inflamed esophagus, diarrhea, abdominal pain)
  • Headaches with vision changes
  • Problems with sexual function and fertility
  • Thyroid carcinoma
  • Tumors
  • Adrenal imbalances
  • Cancer (various)
  • Strong, fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Tremors in the hand
  • Severe headaches
  • Heavy Sweating for no reason
  • Being extremely pale
  • Chest or abdominal pain
  • Nervousness
  • Irritability
  • Trouble sleeping

Diseases related to RET gene mutations

  • Cancers
  • Tumors
  • Thyroid cancer
  • Adrenal gland tumor
  • Hirschsprung diseases
  • Multiple endocrine neoplasias (MEN2A)
  • Nonsyndromic paraganglioma
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Lung cancer

What is a RET gene mutation?

A RET gene mutation is a gene mutation that has been inherited. Usually, a person will carry a heterozygous mutated RET gene. But if the mutated gene becomes active it will then cause complications. As per the above symptoms and or diseases.  It’s important to understand that some people who have the gene mutation. They will not end up with the related health problems unless the gene does become problematic or active.

Treating an active RET gene mutation

If you have any of the above symptoms/diseases and an active RET gene mutation. Then it is possible to use deep level genetics to help slow or stop the mutation.  From a genetic perspective, everyone has their advantages and disadvantages genetically. So understanding your genetic type at a deeper level can help you make dietary and supplemental changes. That can manipulate how your problem genes play out. Also giving you the best advantage at treating your genetic disposition.
